The non-obvious gem feature is the girdle, the thin widest band between the top crown and lower pavilion. Without a crisp girdle ring, a faceted gem reads as a generic crystal shard or low poly rock. Model the girdle as a deliberate edge loop with a tiny bevel, then align crown triangles upward and pavilion triangles downward from that ring. This gives the model a jewelry cut that stays readable even with flat shading.

Material setup should fake refraction cheaply. True transparent refractive gems are expensive and can sort badly on the web, especially when several overlap. For most games, use an opaque or lightly transparent material with a bright top color, darker saturated underside and white specular facet accents painted into vertex colors or a tiny atlas. Add a separate emissive sparkle only for magic gems; ordinary gems should rely on sharp value contrast so they fit beside coins and chests without glowing like crystals.

For animation and placement, center the pivot at the geometric center if the gem spins as a pickup, or place it at the flat bottom if it sits in a ring, crown or socket. Keep those as separate exported variants rather than moving the pivot per use after import. For 3D printing, avoid a needle-thin pavilion point; flatten the bottom slightly or print the gem crown-up so the sharp point does not become a fragile support scar.
