A small potted plant for mobile or WebGL interiors should usually sit between 120 and 450 triangles, including the pot, soil disk and leaf cluster. A larger hero houseplant viewed close to the camera can run 800 to 1,800 triangles, while a dense garden bed works better as many 60 to 180 triangle plant clumps instanced across the ground. For desktop and console scenes, reserve 2,000 to 3,500 triangles only for a foreground plant with separated leaf cards, visible stems and a ceramic pot that can be inspected up close. The important performance decision is not the exact number on one plant; it is whether dozens of plants can share the same mesh, atlas and material so they batch cleanly.

Plant leaves are not miniature tree canopies. Broad indoor leaves need a visible midrib and a slight upward cupping angle so they read as individual blades instead of a flat green fan. Use 5 to 9 faceted leaves around a basal rosette for a cheap succulent or monstera-like plant, and rotate each leaf around its own local pivot at the stem base before applying transforms. That pivot placement is useful later: the same mesh can receive a tiny wind sway or idle animation without the entire plant wobbling like rubber.

A potted plant needs two pivots, one conceptual and one technical. The object origin should sit at the bottom center of the pot so it snaps to shelves, windowsills and floor grids. Individual leaves, if separated or rigged, should pivot where they emerge from the soil, not at their geometric centers. For collision, a single cylinder or box around the pot is enough; do not collide the leaves unless the plant is a gameplay obstacle, because leaf collision costs more than it adds in a decorative scene.

Materials should stay compact: one 512px atlas can hold the pot color, soil disk and two or three leaf greens, while a 1024px atlas is enough for a hero plant with painted veins. Alpha-tested leaf cards look cheap at first, but they cost overdraw on mobile and sort badly in some WebGL pipelines; for a true low poly plant, solid faceted leaf meshes are usually more predictable. Export GLB for Godot, Three.js and AR placement, or FBX for Unity and Unreal if you want separated pot, soil and leaf nodes.
