A small game pickup potion can be 180 to 450 triangles, with a simple 8 to 12 sided bottle, cork, label and colored liquid plane. A desktop inventory potion usually sits between 600 and 1,500 triangles so the bottle has a beveled silhouette and the liquid level is visible. A hero shop or crafting-table potion can use 2,000 to 4,000 triangles if it includes a handle, wax seal, rope tie or animated bubbles. For mobile RPG inventories, keep potion variants under 800 triangles each and rely on color and label changes for health, mana and poison rather than separate bottle meshes.

The non-obvious setup is that the liquid should be a separate inner mesh, not just a material painted on the bottle. Give the liquid a flat top surface that stays horizontal in the bottle object space and a slightly inset side wall so z-fighting never appears against the glass. If the bottle is tilted in an animation, you can fake sloshing by rotating only the liquid top plane or using a shader, while the outside bottle remains rigid.

Glass transparency should be conservative. Full alpha-blended glass over transparent liquid can sort badly in WebGL and mobile renderers, producing dark edges or disappearing liquid. A safer stylized setup is an opaque or alpha-tested bottle rim with a bright rim color, a separate saturated liquid mesh, and a small emissive core only for magical potions. Use one 512px atlas for cork, label and wax, and keep glass tint as material color rather than a texture whenever possible.

Potion pivots depend on gameplay. For inventory display and spinning pickups, center the pivot at the bottle midpoint. For a bottle that sits on a shelf or table, use a bottom-center origin so it snaps cleanly to surfaces. Do not share one pivot for both if the model is used heavily; export pickup and shelf variants. For 3D printing, fill the bottle as a solid shell, thicken the neck to at least 1.2mm for FDM, and avoid a separate tiny cork unless it is fused to the bottle.
